About this Event

The Crafts Council campaigns for every child to have the chance to discover their practical abilities, develop their creative talents, and become a maker of the future.

We need committed teachers, school leadership and education change-makers to lend their voices, enthusiasm and talent to our growing movement to keep craft in the classroom.

If you believe that playing with clay, electro-etching and giant knit sculpture are central to developing young people's skills for the future, join us for a celebration of craft in the classroom.

Featuring quick-fire case studies, hands-on activity, and young people's insights, we'll dive into:

  • Craft as cross-curricular bridge connecting art, science and technology
  • The power of skills-based CPD to reconnect teachers with their creativity
  • The transformational potential of craft in special school settings
  • Craft as a career— the breadth of the craft sector and giving schools the tools to signpost and offer advice

We know the cultural sector is behind us, so to avoid preaching to the choir we've ring-fenced the majority of tickets for teachers, executive heads and head teachers, curriculum leads, and education policy makers with the power to reignite craft in schools. Of course, our colleagues from the craft and creative sectors are welcome to attend too. We look forward to seeing you there!

With thanks to Thomas Tallis School for kindly hosting us.
